About Conservation Day

Conservation Day on the Hill (CDH) is held annually during Tennessee’s legislative session – with opportunities to participate both online and in person at the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville. In person: participants will meet with their legislators to discuss the importance of protecting Tennessee’s environment. Online: participants will write letters, make phone calls, and share information with their communities to promote conservation.

In 2026, CDH will focus in person engagement on educating key legislators, specifically the members of the legislative committees who hear bills related to the environment. In the Senate, that committee is the Energy, Agriculture, and Natural Resources Committee. In the House, there are two stops that a bill will make: first the Agriculture and Natural Resources Subcommittee, and then the full Committee.

Why focus on committees? During the initial subcommittee or committee phase of a bill’s journey through the legislature, committee members receive, discuss, amend, and ultimately decide whether or not to send a bill on to the next stage of the process. The best way to achieve impact is to spend time educating TN state senators and representatives that serve on the committees that will help shape bills related to conservation and environment.

Conservation Day on the Hill 2025

On Tuesday, February 25, 120 participants – from Memphis to Kingsport – joined us and our fellow partner organizations at the Tennessee state capitol to speak with 85 legislators about protecting our environment. We’re so proud of our multi-generational community – from 10 years old to over 75. We’re better together and have so much to learn from each other!
